What we keep, and what we do not
Last changed 11 October 2026.
- No account, no email, no name. Your Crack Book opens from a private link. We store only a scrambled form (a hash) of its key, so we cannot read it back or send it to you.
- What a book holds: the house nicknames, dates, rooms, notes and crack readings you save. Use a nickname such as "Brick ranch by the park" rather than a street address: the book does not need one.
- Readings you do not save are worked out on the page and never stored.
- Cookies: one cookie holds your book's key (only after you save something), and one security cookie protects forms. No advertising or tracking cookies, no analytics, no third-party scripts.
- Abuse limits: to slow down abuse we count changes per connection per hour, keeping only a salted hash of the address, deleted after two days.
- Server logs: the web server keeps standard access logs (address, page, time) for security and troubleshooting.
- Deleting: "Delete this book" on your book page removes every house and crack at once. Unopened books are deleted after two years.
- Payments (when switched on) are handled by PayPal; we receive only the subscription status, never card details.
